The Dream of Being Beheaded

This story seems to be mysterious, but it is real.  There was a man named Yao Ching who came to find me and related his dream to me.  It went like this:

Yao Ching was roaming around on horseback in his dream.  Suddenly his horse ran up to the top of a mountain.  

There was an execution site situated on the mountaintop, where an executor was standing.  He was holding an enormous axe and appeared to be waiting for him.  At that moment, three to four persons jumped out from his left and right sides and caught hold of Yao Ching without saying a word.  They dragged him to the execution field and Yao Ching was frightened out of his wits.

He wanted to call out but could not utter a sound.  He wanted to say he was not in the wrong but he could not even speak a word.

He was tied to the execution pole.

The executor held up his huge axe.  Yao Ching trembled.

The next moment was pierced by a loud scream, followed by pitch darkness.

Yao Ching then woke up from his dream perspiring all over his body.

Yao Ching said: "Grand Master Lu, this is not the first time that I have this dream. I have this dream frequently but the strange thing is it only began two years ago and never before".

Yao Ching continued to say that the dream was very uncomfortable and startling.  Initially, he thought that it was just a nightmare and it would not happen again.  Unfortunately it repeatedly occurred and the dream was always the same.  This frightened him a lot.

Yao Ching consulted a medium about it before.

The medium said: "This is the omen of death and you have to pray to the Deities of The Heaven and Earth and chant the sutra continuously for three days and three nights to avoid this calamity."

Yao Ching followed the advice accordingly but his nightmare still returned.

Then he went to consult a Reverend (monk).

The Reverend told him: "Such a dream may not actually be accurate.  You can ignore it, but since you have the nightmare repeatedly, and it makes you uneasy with such inauspicious indications, how about this!  You can print meritous books and sutras, offer vegetarian meals to the Sangha group, donate money for building temples and Pagodas, and be the Main Prayer for a Liang Emperor Repentance Ceremony.  This should help you to clear your calamity! "

He followed suit again but the nightmare still did not go away.

Yao Ching then went to consult a fortuneteller who could interpret dreams.

The fortuneteller told him: "This is the warning of offending the white tiger execution head.  (An ancient criminal punishment weapon whereby the spirit of the White Tiger Deity is believed to guard over), You have to appease the White Tiger. "

After offering to appease the White Tiger Deity, the dream was still haunting Yao Ching.

Yao Ching had a doctor friend.  He told him:  "Go and look for Sheng-yen Lu!  He has some miraculous power.  In the past, in our hospital, where we had given up on some dying patients, the hospital had already informed the family members to prepare for the funeral and record the dying patient's last will and testament.  Those patients turned around seeking help from Sheng-yen Lu and then they were cured"

That was how Yao Ching came to look for me.

I went into the Samadhi Meditation to look into the case of Yao Ching.

I saw a very colorful statue name Ne Zha Third Prince.  The only different feature of this statue was that this Ne Zha was not riding on a fire wheel but riding on a horse.  In one of his hands, he was holding a spear, in the other, he is holding a wind-fire disc (another ancient weapon).

I told Yao Ching: "Your problem originates from the Ne Zha Third Prince statue."

Yao Ching was taken aback and replied "Two years ago I did bring back a statue of this Ne Zha Third Prince for worshipping and he was indeed riding on horseback."  

Yao Ching investigated further into this matter and the truth was finally revealed.

Two years ago, Yao Ching brought back this statue from a temple situated on the top of a hill.  The statue had fallen from the temple altar and the head of the statue was broken.  The person overseeing the temple used superglue to glue the head back onto the statue and repainted it.  From appearance, the statue looked brand-new again.

In the end, Yao Ching brought the statue back to that temple and brought back another new statue of the Ne Zha Third Prince.  From then onwards, his dream did not appear again.

From this incident, I had a few thoughts:

The Buddha and Deities statues that we pray to should be in perfect condition as any cracks or broken parts will affect us psychologically.

In addition, we should not pray to any statue of just the Buddha head that has no body to it. In the markets, there are plenty of these kinds of statues but they should not be prayed to, as they are merely arts pieces.

Any statues of Buddha's or Deities, which are broken, should be sent off properly with a Tantric method.  We can choose the method of fire burning, burying it in the ground, or sending the broken statues off in the water (river/sea).  In this manner, all will become cleansed and purified.

All the happenings in this world have its causes and effects, even for a dream.  Unfortunately, most people are not aware that everything has the elements of causes and effects in it.
