Finally, the day that True Buddha School students around the world
have been looking forward to had arrived. On August 21st, 2000,
His Holiness Living Buddha Lian-sheng, the founder of the True Buddha
School, Master Lian-hsiang, and an entourage of masters, reverends,
and students from the United States, arrived in Hong Kong. This
officially started an eight-day event which would include, on August
27th, 2000, the Dharma Ceremony and Transmission of the supreme
and remarkable Kalachakra Teaching.
At 8:00 p.m. on August 21st, Hong Kong International Airport was
an absolute sea of people. Everywhere, there were True Buddha School
monks and nuns wearing lama robes, and the Hong Kong Lui Tsang Szi
staff members wearing the yellow Kalachakra Ceremony uniforms. Workers
at the airport remarked that this was the biggest welcoming party
they had ever seen at the airport. It was estimated that about two
thousand True Buddha School students came to the airport that evening
to welcome the arrival of His Holiness and Master Lian-hsiang.
At 10:15 p.m., Grand Master Lu and Master Lian-hsiang walked through
the immigration station. Instantly, numerous camera lights started
flashing. Master Lian-han (who would transmit the Kalachakra Teaching
during the ceremony on behalf of the Grand Master), together with
the students, knelt down to pay reverent homage to His Holiness.
To many of the True Buddha School students, the Grand Master's presence
was like a sweet rain falling on parched lands; many were so happy
that they started crying. Spontaneously everyone began to chant
the Guru's Heart Mantra. Despite a long and tiring journey, the
Grand Master and Master Lian-hsiang compassionately greeted and
blessed all of the students present. Then Master Lian-han invited
His Holiness and Master Lian-hsiang to have their picture taken
in front of an elaborate red horizontal banner that had been designed
by the Hong Kong Lui Tsang Szi.
Afterwards, accompanied by Master Lian-han, His Holiness walked
to the car that had been arranged by the organizer and was chauffeured
to the Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel where he would be staying.
