TURNING THE DHARMA WHEEL
[Seattle/ Reverend Hui Jun]
(Translated by Sim Khang Liang & the TBSN Translation Committee)

"I remember when I first started to learn Buddhism, my master told me, ‘Next time, it will be your turn to revolve the Dharma wheel.’ In the future, Grand Master shall also tell True Buddha disciples, ‘Grand Master has already turned the Dharma wheel, and next time, it will be your turn to do so,’" His Holiness Living Buddha Lian-sheng thus reminded His disciples, teaching them the principle of the ‘Perpetuation of Dharma Light’. This is to ensure that the light of His Holiness’ teachings be passed on to millions of people, endlessly and without cessation…..

On May 23rd, at the True Buddha Tantric Quarters, His Holiness explained to the public the true significance of ‘Turning the Dharma Wheel’.

Firstly, His Holiness stated that to turn the Dharma Wheel is to turn the hearts of the sentient beings, "The hearts of sentient beings are always backed against the realm of spiritual awareness, whilst facing the mundane world. Therefore, to turn the Dharma Wheel is to direct the sentient beings’ hearts towards the Buddhadharma. The word ‘turn’ means to revolve, to destroy karmic hindrances and afflictions, inspiring sentient beings to attain spiritual enlightenment. For instance, Grand Master is actually turning the hearts of sentient beings whenever He preaches, so that they can be emancipated from the fetters of life and death, and eliminate all mundane worries."

To elaborate further, His Holiness elucidated to the assembly the doctrine of the ‘Three Wheels’ as was mentioned in the Buddhist Scriptures, "The Self-nature Wheel, True Doctrinal Wheel and the Instructional Wheel are collectively known as the ‘Three Wheels’. Every Buddha is considered the Self-nature Wheel, Maha-prajnaparamita Bodhisattva the True Doctrinal Wheel, and the Acala Vajrapala the Instructional Wheel. Similarly, the role of the Self-nature Wheel is comparable to that of a school head master, the True Doctrinal Wheel the Education Minister, and the Instructional Wheel the disciplinary master.* (His Holiness illustrated with another example) Likewise, the Amitabha Buddha is considered the Self-nature Wheel, the Manjushri Bodhisattva the True Doctrinal Wheel and the Yamantaka Vajrapala the Instructional Wheel."

His Holiness also explained the numerous definitions associated with ‘Turning the Dharma Wheel’, "Firstly, it means to transform sentient beings of inferior spiritual caliber, into those of excellent spiritual caliber.

"Secondly, to instill faith in the non-believers…. Sentient beings, having read the books authored by Grand Master, will take refuge and practise Dharma accordingly.

"Grand Master also has His expedient methods. He can bestow blessings and generate miracles to inspire the skeptics to believe. There are some who learn about the doctrines of karma and reincarnation, after listening to the animatedly delivered and spiritually fulfilling sermons by Grand Master. These people are then spurred to achieve spiritual emancipation. This is known as the ‘Expedient Revolution’, which in turn means to instill faith in the unbelievers. ‘Correct Faith’, as effected through the studying of Buddhadharma, will move the souls of sentient beings into believing.

"Thirdly, to turn evil into goodness. A person who does bad things decides to turn over a new leaf, upon knowing the Law of Karma.

"Fourthly, the ‘Great Revolution’. When Grand Master entered into Samadhi, into deep meditative stabilization, He can emanate many manifestations from amidst the Cosmic Consciousness, and appear in different places to preach. He is like Shakyamuni Buddha, who in the past has entered into deep meditative stabilization at the Divine Vulture Peak, with His other manifestation appearing in another world, the ‘Shambhala Kingdom’, to give instructions on the Kalachakra Vajrapala method.

"Grand Master can turn with the revolution of His own Self-nature, enter and preach Buddhadharma in the dreams of His disciples from all over the world.

"Last but not least, the ‘Enhancement Revolution’. If the Dharma-cultivator is suffering from bad luck, but incidentally, he has been taught the Enhancement methods by Grand Master, then he will be able to turn adversities into good fortune."

Not only did His Holiness speak on ‘Turning the Dharma Wheel’, He also prayed that the disciples will perpetuate the spreading of Buddhadharma, cultivate diligently, and propagate with great enthusiasm the True Buddha Tantra. These are in fact the lifetime responsibilities of all True Buddha followers.

*Editor’s note: This perhaps, is an error of the Chinese original, for an Education Minister enjoys a much higher and more responsible status than any ordinary school head master. The Buddha’s role should therefore be comparable to the responsibility of a minister, while the Bodhisattva’s to that of a head master.
