GRAND MASTER LU REMARKS ON THE 10th ANNIVERSARY OF HIS ORDINATION

The 10th day of the second lunar month, which falls on March 18th this year, marked the 11th Anniversary of His Holiness Living Buddha Lian-sheng’s own ordination. After the "Great Offerings to the Buddhas" ceremony, the Grand Master, upon the request from His disciples, gave the following sermon with regard to His feelings about this special occasion:

"Having reached this stage, I feel that the scope of my evangelist endeavor has become much broader. Neither do I have to worry about which direction to take, nor am I concerned with the fulfillment of certain objective. Let nature take its course.

"Ordinary people however, think otherwise, for they persist in their deliberate and affixed designs. For instance, they have already determined for themselves what they want to be in the future, or how many people to be converted to Buddhism. They have the ambition to build the world’s largest temple or museum. They want to emulate a certain Buddhist Master who leads the world’s largest Buddhist organisation. These are nonetheless concerns which I do not have.

"In the past, I tended to worry for sentient beings whenever I encountered slanders, rumors or verbal attacks from others, or came across happenings which were detrimental to our sect. But now, I realise that these are normal occurrences. Like the Buddha, I no longer have woes and worries.

"Ordinary persons on the other hand, are grievously affected by the notion of gains and losses. There were those who neglected the affairs of their meditation centers, started to spread rumors about our sect, just because I refused to grant them the title of Acarya. Some even wished to secede as they were unhappy with their peripheral positions in our school. This is not the proper way to true spiritual cultivation."

Subsequently, the Grand Master urged His audience to perceive and treat other people with impartiality. He suggested that we put ourselves in the shoes of others, so that we can know, for example, the reason for a person’s anger towards us or the motive for him/her talking behind our back.

The Grand Master said, "As Buddhists, you should transcend from the mindset of an ordinary person. Broaden your Mind and go beyond the mundane sentiments of anger, jealousy, suspicion and fear. Let not your faith fluctuate like the waves. You must not only be diligent at times when you gain spiritual realizations, you must also sustain your conviction in the Dharma during the lulls of your cultivation. You should neutralize and discard the idea of gains and losses. It is only with these efforts that the Mind can be stabilized, enabling it to emit Brilliance as you cultivate further."

This illuminating sermon from the His Holiness imbued the audience with a soothing sense of Dharma Bliss.

Although it was the 11th Anniversary of His ordination, the Grand Master still returned to work at the Correspondence Center, blessing letters received from His disciples. With untiring demeanor, He continued His exposition on ‘The Great Rainbow Accomplishment’ at 4pm in the afternoon.

Given such caring and attentive concern from His Holiness, how would any disciple not feel grateful and reciprocate by being more industrious in their own spiritual cultivation?
