This is a book of "worldly Dharmas." It is a book of
methods used to secure success in the mundane world - it's goals
being family harmony, good health, wealth, successful careers, filial
obedience from one's children, and the mitigation and eradication
of disasters.
In the past feng-shui readings, I noticed that many people live
in homes shockingly unfavorable to them. My sympathy and compassion
for those living in such unlucky houses prompted me to write this
detailed geomancy book Household Feng-shui. So that this book can
be read and understood by everyone, I have used the clearest possible
language to explain the deep and profound study of "earth magic."
I, Living Buddha Lian-sheng, feel there are three fundamental aspects
to any successful "worldly Dharma" or mundane endeavor:
-
timing -- the karmic opportunity bestowed by the Cosmos
or destiny
-
the support of people -- man-made factors such as self
effort and harmonious human interaction
-
a favorable geographic position -- assistance rendered
in the form of a positive environment, or favorable feng-shui.
"Time, people, and place" are the three constituents
behind any successful endeavor in the mundane world. The factor
of "time" is usually very difficult to change. The second
factor, "people," generally involves the exertion of great
effort on one's part. The final factor, "place," is the
easiest to manipulate. Thus, geomancy (feng-shui) becomes an effective
method of bringing about radical change or reversing the course
of events in a particular situation.
"Place" also plays a role in the cultivation of "transcendental
Dharma," or spiritual transformation. In the olden days, Taoist
practitioners sought famous mountains and caverns, places of exceptionally
high energy, to cultivate. Today, practitioners of esoteric Buddhism
still seek out caves of high energy to conduct their retreats.
In my younger years, as a student of the Taoist Master Ch'ing Chen,
I was imparted the teachings contained in the manuscript The Secrets
of Earth Magic. To a certain degree, my knowledge of feng-shui has
aided in founding of the True Buddha School and my attainment of
Enlightenment through Buddhist cultivation. Whenever I relocate,
I always select a locale with the best feng-shui. My careful attention
to the role played by feng-shui has enabled me to keep my spiritual
energy at a perpetually full and vigorous level.
In all my life, I have rarely fallen ill. I do not take afternoon
naps, and I never feel tired. I have lived in the United States
for five years now and have never even had the common cold. This
is a result of the opportune combinations of "time, people,
and place." In fact, my transformation into "Living Buddha
Lian-sheng" is concrete proof of the ideal integration of these
three factors of "time, people, and place."
For a Taoist practitioner to succeed in cultivation, he or she
must have a certain innate qualities, be hard working and perseverant,
and have assistance from "earth energy." Therefore, the
selection of an "ideal place" to cultivate is very important.
In ancient times, all great Tantrayana adepts found caves with strong
earth energy to cultivate. Without the contributing energy from
such locations, their great efforts would have been in vain.
In view of the above principle, homes with positive earth energy
will not only bring inhabitants a sense of well-being, but good
health, successful careers, and family harmony as well. Conversely,
the inhabitants of homes lacking positive earth energy experience
adversities, emotional dissatisfactions, and failing careers. With
one event feeding the next, such inhabitants may become trapped
in a vicious cycle of disasters.
Many students and readers have requested that I write a feng-shui
book on homes. After careful consideration, I also feel a need for
more people to understand the important role of "earth energy"
in our lives. Humans should have access to the great knowledge of
feng-shui and develop a proper view of the benefits of earth energy.
Inherent in the art and science of feng-shui are many guiding principles
for life. I will make every effort to write in a manner that is
clear and easy to understand, incorporating practical concepts and
examples. It is my wish that, through a detailed description of
my own experiences, some of the biases and incorrect views about
feng-shui will be rectified.
In this book, I shall discuss the important aspects pertaining
to the selection of a home -- the location, altitude, width, door,
surrounding environment, living room, kitchen, bedroom, shrine,
bathroom, office, and staircase positioning -- and discuss different
feng-shui theories.
I hope the writing of this book will offer an impartial and systematic
view of feng-shui that will be of practical value to its readers.
This resource book reveals that my teachings do not lean toward
total renunciation of worldly affairs but are an amalgamation of
both "transcendental" and "worldly" Dharmas.
The publication of this book is an offering of boundless blessings
to all my students and readers. It is my wish that everyone will
attain good health and longevity, auspiciousness, a harmonious family
life, an increase in wisdom and fortune, and fruition in spiritual
cultivation.
