Outside the Ling Shen Ching Tze and True Buddha Tantric Quarter,
I was often lost in deep thought while gazing at the scenery around
me. Here the deep blue sky made the few puffs of white clouds whiter
than usual, and the emerald green lawns and heaven-reaching giant
pines enhanced the gold of the temple roof tiles. What a beautiful
and magnificent view! This is because a great and holy sage, His
Holiness the Living Buddha, lives here! The spiritual light of the
Living Buddha pervades heaven and earth and stretches from ocean
to sky. Breathing in this fresh air, I felt carefree and joyous;
all my worldly troubles had melted away! I raised my head to the
sky and, with my eyes closed, reveled in this state wherein the
self is almost forgotten...
I often stood alone at the left corner of the temple, looking up
at the three tall pines. Not too long ago, His Holiness had been
standing on this same spot, as the Dragon Spirit manifested above
the giant pines, spewing golden lights on him...
Often in the early morning and late evening, I would go to the
temple and sit behind the offering table in the center, meditating
while facing the shrine. This spot is the center of the dragon den
and the spiritual energy here is the strongest. Meditating here
enables spiritual energy to speedily converge and fill the body;
enabling one to swiftly enter a state of stability.
One night after 10 p.m., I again went to the temple to meditate
alone. After assuming the full lotus, I quickly felt the spiritual
energy rushing through my body. Amidst an extraordinarily concrete
yet buoyant lightness, I entered into stability and became detached
from my surroundings. Suddenly, the space in front of my eyes lit
up and I saw the two windowpanes of His Holiness' True Buddha Tantric
Quarter filled with a dazzling light. This was very much like a
reflection of sunlight off glass windows. Yet, upon second glance,
I realized the light was not a reflection but sunlight radiating
from inside out. Then there was a spread of golden, dazzling light
obliterating the windows and even the walls, a rush of surprise
and joy ran through my heart and, with the arising of thought, I
emerged from Samadhi.
Getting up on my feet, I ran out of the temple as fast as I could.
(Actually I was limping because sitting in the lotus posture had
made my legs slightly sore.) The two windows of His Holiness' True
Buddha Tantric Quarter were dark and there was no light inside the
room. I walked slowly over to the windows and listened. It was quiet
and I did not hear any human sounds. Transfixed on the spot, I recalled
the vision I had seen in my meditation two minutes ago.
What wonderfully bright and dazzling golden sunrays those were,
appearing in the dark of night! What was the source of the light?
What did it mean? I knew His Holiness would be the only person who
could solve this riddle for me!
