Chapter 35 - Heavenly Signs To Approve The True Buddha School
The Service Ceremony To Pray For Happiness, Feb. 1987
It was Feb. 7, 1987, at the Lei Tsang Temple of the True Buddha
Dharma of the United States. Disciples from all over the world,
totaling more than a thousand, got together. Masters present at
the ceremony included:
Chen Jueheng, Chen Senho, Chen Senlong, Zhong Lusheng, Li Meili,
Li Xingzhi, Lu Lixiang, Luo Zhenfang, Kant and Zheng Yuxin from
the American area.
Liao Yunling and Lai Wenyan from the Canadian area.
Lin Yirong from the Hong Kong area.
You Yanshou, Zhuang Huangyu, and Liao Yucun from the Taiwan area.
Three lamas from Tibet were also present: Budon Qinzhu, Zandui
Jiepo and Sangjie Jiazuo, who presented pieces white silk to Living
Buddha Lian Shen, and received reinforcement from him.
Master Wu Ben from the Esoteric Sect took refuge in Living Buddha
Lian Shen.
Liu Yili and some other disciples from Vancouver, on their way
to the Lei Tsang Temple here for the ceremony, suddenly saw very
strange signs high above the Temple.
There was a huge beam of white light across the sky, the milky
white of which pouring right into the Lei Tsang Temple.
There was also a huge beam of blue light, pouring into the Lei
Tsang Temple on the other side.
Then the two beams of light mingled, producing an unprecedented
sight. The disciples stopped their cars and gazed at the sight in
great amazement. It was such a phenomenal sight indeed!
Liu Yili announced this miracle to everybody in the ceremony the
next day, Feb. 8. It was the mingling of twin lights to give empowerment
to all sentient beings.
The praying-for-happiness service started at 10:00 sharp Feb. 7.
First, the assembly greeted, with great respect, the Holy Revered
Red Crown Vajra Master, Living Buddha Lian Shen. Then the bells
and drums rumbled. Leader of the True Buddha School read out a verse
in place of a lecture:
Happiness resides in one's heart;
One's heart itself is the Buddha,
Once the heart harbours the Buddha,
Happiness comes by itself.
After burning the memorial to all Buddhas, Living Buddha Lian Shen,
following the prescribed rituals, performed all the ceremonies:
reciting the purification mantras, reciting the invocation mantra,
paying the great homage to the Buddhas of the ten directions, giving
the great mandara offerings, reciting the fourfold refuge mantra,
performing the armor protection, reciting the sutras, forming the
great mudra for happiness, visualizing , reciting the mantras, meditating
to enter the state of Samadhi, giving empowerment.... Throughout
the ceremony, spiritual energy filled up the service hall, the dharma
rain fell heavily, and the Buddha's light was shining. Everyone
present got immense reinforcement and wonderful responses.
In the memorial to the Buddhas, Living Buddha Lian Shen made a
special mention that those who took part in the service by correspondence
would also receive great reinforcement by the Dakinis.
Their names were included in the name list burned.
During the service period, all the Masters took turns to give lectures.
At 8 o'clock in the morning on Feb. 7, Living Buddha Lian Shen
gave a dharma talk entitled "On the Four Immeasurables":
Immeasurable kind-heartedness - wishing all sentient beings
get their happiness and the causes for happiness.
Immeasurable compassion - wishing all sentient beings
shall leave their sufferings and the causes of sufferings.
Immeasurable delight - wishing all sentient beings shall
never part with their happiness that is not accompanied by suffering.
Immeasurable charity - wishing all sentient beings shall
make no distinction between relatives and strangers, between love
and hatred and treat all things as equal.
These four immeasurables are "kind-heartedness, compassion,
delight and charity". There are mantras involved, which I explained.
Finally I conducted empowerment on all disciples.
These four immeasurable corresponded to the great beam of white
light over the Lei Tsang Temple. It was the light of kind-heartedness
and compassion.
At eight o'clock in the morning on Feb. 8, Living Buddha Lian Shen
gave a lecture "Visualizing Bodhisattva Manjushri's Sword".
There are also mantras on this visualization. And again I conducted
empowerment on all disciples.
In the course of my lecture, there was a strange beam of red light
and of yellow light shooting down to earth, with a lot of spiritual
energy falling as well. Many disciples formed the Lotus-holding
mudra by themselves. This was a fascinating moment. Red flowers
and yellow flowers were falling from the sky. Many disciples saw
them with their own eyes!
Living Buddha Lian Shen said, "When the flowers touch the
sentient beings, everybody will get rid of their misfortune and
bad luck and will get good luck instead. Bodhisattva Manjushri is
an auspicious Vajra and a Prajna Vajra."
The lecture "Visualizing Bodhisattva Manjushri's Sword"
corresponded to the great beam of blue light above the Lei Tsang
Temple. It was light of wisdom!
Then I said, "Wisdom and compassion are two qualities that
all monks must possess. With them, they can benefit and convert
the sentient beings. With wisdom alone without a kind and compassionate
heart, one will sooner or later become a devil. With compassion
alone, without wisdom, one can only convert a limited number of
sentient beings. Only when the two beams of light merge, can their
immense power be brought into full play."
The following deserve a special mention:
Zhong Xiaoxing from the Sheng Xin Chapter, Japan, came with their
grand plan about teaching the Dharma in Japan.
Lian Rong from St. Paul, Brazil, came with their publication programme
in the Portuguese language.
The Edmond Chapter and the Vanconver Chapter, Canada, and Xin Fa
Chapter in Hong Kong, will be in charge of publishing translated
books in the English Language.
Lianhua Zhonggeng from the Da Guan Chapter, Malaysia, has planned
a Southeast Asian trip to spread the Dharma.
Om Mani Padme Hum
Good luck to everyone!
