Chapter 33 - Houses For Ghosts And Demons

A Book of Secrets on Land Spirits has a verse that reads:

A northeast door is only for ghosts.

As there are no positive forces there whatever.

Ghosts gather where negative forces are too strong.

Nothing can stop their disturbance.

They make trouble most in dark places,

Or hide themselves in palm leaves.

On the compass, it is the Gen position (the northeast position) that is for ghosts and demons.

If the gate (or door) is located in the northeast position, it will be the doorway for ghosts and demons, a place of extreme negative forces, and a place where no positive forces whatever exist.

Then most ghosts would like to stay in a house or room like that, where they hide themselves in dark corners or behind pot-plants, or in a dim-lit living-room. The bed may be properly set up in the appropriate place, but there are many dreams at night about monsters and evil spirits. Such sleepless nights worry the people living there. All is because a lot of ghosts have gathered in the room. They have taken away the vitality forces; as a result the people feel extremely tired.

If the gate or door is situated in the northeast position, there will be strange foetuses in case of pregnancy, such as a blood foetus, vesicular mole or any strange things. Such unusual pregnancies show odd features very early on. Even when the baby is born, it may be deaf, or mute. Sometimes it turns out to be a tumour rather than a foetus.

I once studied a house fraught with ghosts and demons. When I concluded that it was a house for ghosts and demons, the owner asked, "How do you know?"

I replied, "The northeast is a doorway for ghosts."

"Everything was fine when we first moved in. Why is that?"

"There must be a death first in the family. Then the ghosts will come in."

"When?"

"Two years ago."

The owner nodded, fully convinced. He knew I was perfectly correct. Two years ago, his mother died; the funeral lasted three months. As soon as the funeral started, all family members began to have nightmares without end. The house often looked very strange. His wife had a tumour removed from her uterus. There was one illness after another in the family. There was no peace in the house.

I made a special effort to change his northeast gate.

What is more serious is that if the gate is located in the northeast, and the house is very big and no sunlight shines upon it, the whole place will become a "market of ghosts" ?/font> a place many ghosts get together.

No wonder such houses give no peace to the people living in.

There are other features, apart from the northeast gate, which make a house a place for ghosts. The following points should be kept in mind in particular.

• When the walls of the rooms are broken, they must be repaired at once.

• A corridor must not be connected to the living-room. They should be kept separate.

• Open spaces must not take the shape of a coffin.

• A small room behind the house must not take the shape as a coffin.

• Don't put potted flowers in dim, dark places.

• Carelessness is liable to make the house a place for ghosts and demons.

Why do we have to repair broken walls? Because ghosts like broken walls. With broken walls, the room is like a mortuary for the ghosts. If the corridor is connected with the living-room, the ghosts will be confused, taking it for a coffin in an open space. A small room behind a big room is likely to be taken for a coffin by the ghosts. Ghosts will attach themselves to potted plants in dark corners.

I, Living Buddha Lian Shen, have met many ghosts. Ghosts, by nature, are honest, slow-witted and mischievous. But between ghosts and human beings, I am more afraid of the latter.

This is because human beings are indirect, dishonest and insincere; they are more dangerous than ghosts.

As I have studied Tantric teachings, I know how to "give food in charity", "make sweet dew" and "deliver the souls." For many years now I have been practising, every other day, "giving food in charity", "making sweet dew" and "delivering souls" for ghosts. So many ghosts would get together in my special room - not my living-room, but a room for ghosts.

These ghosts come to the room at my invitation.

I sympathize them and try hard to deliver them. I also try to convert them, for they belong to sentient beings as well!

I have been doing all this for no selfish interest but out of great compassion. This is also "doing without intention". It is not easy for us to come to this world. We should try our best to do good. I always consider this as my duty.
