Chapter 16 - The Business Desk And The Writing Desk
Once a doctor invited a well-known geomancer to set up a business
desk for him.
As soon as the geomancer arrived, he told the doctor, before anything
else, the price he would charge.
"Three thousand dollars altogether!" the master said.
"Three thousand dollars for setting up a desk?!" The
doctor was genuinely startled.
"Yes," the master explained: "One thousand for examining
the location of the desk, one thousand for choosing the date of
moving and another thousand for moving the desk with my own hands.
That makes three thousand."
"Ah ... aha ..." The doctor opened his mouth but could
not utter a word. Finally, he managed to say: "I'll get another,
another master..."
"Whom do you have in mind?"
"There is a Living Buddha Lian Shen who never asks for anything.
He lets people pay as they wish."
The master's face turned blue and went off in a huff.
This is a true story. To set up a desk does deserve that much money.
If my reader finishes reading this short chapter, he can also learn
how to set up a business desk or a writing desk. He can make three
thousand dollars in a few seconds. This shows that such knowledge
is really worth knowing.
In setting up a business desk in one's workplace or a writing desk
at home, the guiding principles are the same. We shall do well to
remember the following six:
Don't face the door directly. Our desk must not face the door directly,
that is, if we draw a straight line from the door, our desk is not
on that line. A desk facing the door directly makes us feel insecure.
As soon as the "air" comes in, it rushed right to your
face.
Don't have your back towards the door. From where we sit, we should
be able to see the people coming and going. Don't sit with your
back facing the door; you feel insecure that way because you can't
see the people coming in or going out. Sitting in that position,
you are likely to meet base persons, your business will not go very
far and you will get disheartened. In the course of time, you will
be finished.
Sit where there is something solid behind you. Behind the chair
we sit in there should be neither door nor window. I often see people
sitting in chairs behind which is a French window. That is very
insecure. With a big window behind you, you feel unsteady. You don't
feel secure because the seat is not supported. When the land forces
come to the seat, they run away quickly, so the land spirits do
not stay to assist you.
Sit close to the wall. There is not only a solid wall behind our
chair, but also the chair is close enough to the wall to make it
strong. I have seen that the proprietor of a big company, to show
off his wealth and development, bought an extra-large desk and put
it in the very centre of the office. It looks magnificent, with
twenty telephones to direct the business in the whole world. However,
as the desk is too far away from the wall, it is not supported by
land spirits.
Location of the twelve two-hour periods (into which the day was
traditionally divided in ancient Chinese philosophy, each being
given the name of the Twelve Earthly Branches). If the above four
guiding principles have been taken into consideration, it is still
necessary to locate with a compass the two directions that attract
each other in the magnetic field of one's birthday. If these two
directions cannot be obtained, it will be all right to use two "peaceful"
directions, for they will be supported by the land spirits. Of course
the best strategy is to take all factors into account and discover
the luckiest position for the desk.
Choosing the date for moving. You choose a lucky date or a full-moon
date which is the fifteenth of a month in a lunar calendar.
If these six principles are followed, everything will be fine.
Why is the business desk or writing desk so important ? The reason
is fairly simple. When the desk is properly set up, it is aided
by the land spirits. This helps to set all things in harmony. Sitting
at the desk, you feel energetic, and spirited and you feel that
your memory is wonderful and everything is completed to your satisfaction.
If the desk is not properly set up, the magnetic force of the land
spirits and that of your own repel one another. Even if you want
to bestir yourself, you don't have the energy. As soon as you sit
at the desk, you keep yawning, with tears, or dizzy, dispirited,
more dead than alive. Finally, everything seems to be getting wrong
- your business starts going downhill, steadily and irresistibly,
your chances never to return.
I, Living Buddha Lian Shen, always take a special notice of the
writing desk. The desk has important bearings on children's interest
in study and on their school work. A grown-up's writing desk is
equally important.
Once I visited the home of a Ph.D. in Physics.
I told him: "You haven't sat in this desk for years."
"How do you know?"
"The desk faces the door and has another door behind. How
can you sit there for long? Besides, the back of the chair has collected
a lot of dust and spiders. So it has been unused for a long time."
"Is this geomancy?"
"Of course not. It's careful observation."
