Chapter 32 - The Lake Of Spring
When Lake Sammamish's spring arrives, there feels to be a thawing
in the lake. A kind of liberated happy feeling starts radiating
in all directions once the long, deep winter is over.
Up till now in my life, I have seldom paid close attention to trees.
I only know that in autumn leaves start sailing downward, scattering
and fluttering all over the place. When winter comes, all the leaves
will have fallen and the boughs have become bald. Trees are turned
into branches, kind of old and ugly. When snow falls, the tops of
the tree trunks and branches are powdered white.
Then comes spring, a time for trees to reawaken from their deep
slumber. Trees by Lake Sammamish start to sprout young, green buds.
Flowers are pink and beautiful but their pollens are allergens.
There are many trees in Redmond and green is everywhere, especially
by Lake Sammamish. But during these days when the air is infused
with pollens, many Americans come down with hay fever.
Hay fever is caused by allergens in the pollens and, when one develops
an allergy to the pollens, one gets symptoms such as dizziness,
stuffiness in the head, sneezing, runny nose, rashes or even fever.
Days of attacks of hay fever are like the aftermath of a wonderful
festival in which flowers are turned into thorny poisons. Many Americans
have experienced hay fever which is similar to a common cold.
Holy-Red-Crown-Vajra-Master has been living in the United States
for more than three years now, and I have been relying on my practice
to defend myself against all infectious agents. I have not even
had a common cold, a sneeze, a cough, or a runny nose in the past
three years. After the awakening of the kundalini, my life seems
to have become a steel-wrought vajra weapon; I don't get sick any
more. These pollens that have afflicted so many people cannot affect
me at all. I have actually purposely sniffed the little blossoms,
trying to inhale more pollens.
I appreciate the life force at the lakeside and enjoy the colorful
blossoms, breathing in their fragrance and pollens. I am curious
about the new twigs that have sprouted little bits of green which,
in the past, I have neglected to observe. This fresh green is thoroughly,
distinctly alive.
Spring at Lake Sammamish has made me become aware of the new twigs
turning green with life and pink with bloom; both my eyes and consciousness
are applauding for these blossoms.
Spring at Lake Sammamish is already circulating harmoniously inside
my body and mind; in my heart there is tremendous happiness and
bliss.
In spring, the murmuring honey bees start flitting around; in spring,
the little birds are singing happily; in spring, the fluttering
butterflies are dancing. The change of seasons in Lake Sammamish
is clearly defined and, in spring, everything is newly born. The
lost is regained-how wonderful it is to be liberated!
Sometimes I realize that the force of Nature is limitless. Too
many people are trying to use their knowledge to change Nature.
People exert their utmost strength, they over-perform and they are
over aggressive. I believe that such over-doing is destructive and
could result in a premature end. So I have now learned to follow
the course of Nature. A person of truly great wisdom will follow
Nature's course; a sage will experience the force of Nature in order
to understand and immerse oneself in it, rather than fight against
it. I feel that it is futile to fight against Nature.
We can, within ourselves, homogenize the forces of Nature and turn
them into a strength. There is no need to forcefully adapt ourselves
to everything. The process it-self is a kind of learning which requires
long training and discipline.
A little blossom, I have taken it into my heart.
A little honey bee, I have taken it into my heart.
A little butterfly, I have taken it into my heart.
This is a fresh experience. I have received great joy and bliss
from it. Lake Sammamish's sceneries are so beautiful. Everything
is thriving and I can feel that the lake is already reborn. To leave
now seems rather difficult.
Although I am a Nature's wanderer, I think I had better stay here
by the side of the lake! I will stay here until I reach the point
where I am the lake and the lake is me. Then, when I leave, the
lake leaves. Then I shall be setting out with my wanderer's footsteps
again, walking towards a different spot between heaven and earth.
Spring at Lake Sammamish is a fresh smiling face, with the flowers
intoxicatingly enchanting, the bald branches growing new green,
the lake water refreshingly cool. Every-thing starts fresh again-even
the land must awaken fresh again.
Holy-Red-Crown-Vajra-Master also feels fresh again. He is projecting
the greatest energy from his inner world, creating a sparkling illumination
and distributing crystals of Light to all his disciples, causing
everyone's heart to prosper and thrive.
