Chapter 2 - Ducks On The Lake

I know this lake is alive, including of course the ducks on the lake.

Ducks also make their home at Lake Sammamish, by the sides of boats along the lake, under the shadows of hanging boughs. They even climb up the banks, and waddle into people's waterfront homes.

Quack. Quack. Quack. They quack.

America is a strange country. People treat the ducks very well here. Few people would eat ducks, and they are protected from being trapped. Thus, the ducks are happy and carefree here.

I have watched ducks swimming in the lake. Always with an elegant air, they wash their wings in the holy water, and linger around the bushes and duckweeds, paddling incessantly. There seem to be many varieties of ducks here. Some are dark green mottled with shades of rose, resembling the Chinese lovebirds by the name of Yin Yeung. Everyone adores them.

When I sit down quietly, facing the lake-

I think of these ducks floating merrily on the lake. Peace and contentment are already being revealed by their carefree and serene forms. How high is the intelligence of these ducks? How much wisdom do they have? How much fame and profit do they possess? All they like is water, food in the water, and the quackings which symbolizes the language of happiness.

I think of all men in this world. Why does that man have so much anxiety? Is the wisdom of man really greater than that of the merry ducks? Is man's desire for knowledge creating more trouble? Why is it that man is never satisfied? Why is a man's spirit never peaceful? Why does man have transgressions? Also, why does man create all kinds of evil deeds?

Man and Ducks: they are both living on this planet, both being shone on by the same sun's rays, both possessing life and having to face death. But can their grasping of knowledge, happiness, country and family really bring men happiness? Life is temporary and assumes many forms. Yet, happiness belongs to the ducks and worry belongs to men.

Man has a heart which cannot be stilled; therefore, everyone, including sages, must endure pain and suffering.

Yet one expects the minds of ducks to be at peace, for only water and food are required. So contentment is happiness of the innermost kind.

Is man on a meandering path and in the wrong?

Are the ducks of Lake Sammamish in the right?

At the innermost part where life emerges, what is the value of true meaning?

When I am meditating, facing the lake, and enter Samadhi, I would penetrate through the layer of obstacle which is wisdom, and in one wonderful moment, my marvelous consciousness will fly like a butterfly, or rather like a honey bee, into a luscious blooming garden, to gather all kinds of nectar. It is deep, mystical, real, and not illusory. l know all there is in the innermost world. I know it is a perfect and noble thought.

I can even say that, when facing the lake, and the ducks on the lake, I enter into the innermost consciousness of the ducks. I know their life and language, their movements and their happiness. I know them to be indeed extremely happy and peaceful.

They need not thirst after books for wisdom.

They need not deliberately search for holiness to cleanse away bad karma.

They need not make court appearances to argue cases.

They have no blemishes and no need to wash them away.

I know surely that, when the truth is revealed, when self-realization is attained, the universe and I merge into each other. I live daily in It, not just approaching it, but living in its safety and contentment.

I understand surely every single matter, because whenever I inspect each matter, my psyche or consciousness will penetrate deeply into the source of its creation, like the numerous heavens and gods, like the stars and moons, like the causes and effects in human activities, like the ducks on the lake .... I know that everything in this universe can undergo dramatic transformation, and this dramatic transformation is what is called supernatural power.

Presently in the world, there are many people trying to learn from the Holy-Red- Crown-Vajra-Master. What is it that they want to learn?

Do they want the ability to perform miracles?

Do they want to learn to practice meditation?

Do they want to learn to become Buddha?

I will share my perception of Lake Sammamish with all of you -

Sometimes, even ducks on the lake would make revelation to all the humans in the world -

Safely,

Contentedly,

Eternally.

The seeds of anxiety of our human race. The unrest of our spirits. The feelings of guilt. Are we humans less advanced than the ducks of Lake Sammamish?
