Chapter 18 - The Image In The Sky
A female student, Lian-fei, is from a rich family. Everybody knows
that her father is very wealthy. She was a Christian before but,
after reading my book, 'My Communication with the Spirit World',
took refuge in me and also in the Reverend Master Kuang-ch'in of
Tucheng.
Reverend Master Kuang-ch'in taught Lian-fei to chant the Great
Compassion Dharani and gave her the refuge-name Ch'uan-ch'uan.
I taught Lian-fei to recite the Guru's Heart Mantra. She has always
been very busy, as she is in charge of some of the enterprises in
her father's company. She can only recite the Great Compassion Dharani
seven times in the morning and the Guru's Heart Mantra one hundred
eight times at night.
One night in February, 1984, she dreamt of the Master, who was
standing on a cloud above, talking to her.
"The day after tomorrow you are fated to have an accident.
Your car will overturn during a long distance trip. But don't be
afraid, Padmakumara will protect you. Ill luck will be turned into
good and you will escape unharmed."
Right after that she woke up. She wondered why the Master had appeared
to her in the dream, and if it were true.
The next night she had the same dream again. She again saw the
Master standing above her on a cloud. He repeated to her exactly
the same warning, that the next day she would encounter a destined
accident, and that Padmakumara would protect her.
Early in the morning, after she arrived at her company, the business
supervisor and the payroll supervisor told her that they all would
have to leave the next morning at 7:00 a.m. for a meeting at 1:00
p.m. at the branch in South Taiwan. They would be going in the company's
luxurious Lincoln, driven by the company's chauffeur. She was unwilling
to go because of the two dreams, but she couldn't avoid attending
the meeting. She was afraid people might laugh at her if she told
them about her dreams. Also, she had always been a person of strong
will and it was not in her nature to back out. Thinking that the
Master would protect her so that the fated accident would not occur,
Lian-fei didn't worry anymore and decided to go. After all, it could
have been her own imagination that was worrying her.
Early the next morning at 7:00 a.m., the three associates and the
chauffeur began the journey, cruising at a high speed. The sky was
blue and clear, the highway was flat and smooth, the car was big
and spacious. It seemed unlikely that an accident would happen.
At about ten o'clock, after they passed through the town of Chiayi,
the weather started to cloud over and it began to drizzle continuously.
Lian-fei told Old Liu, the chauffeur, not to go too fast. Actually
Old Liu was driving at a moderate speed. Very soon, they exited
the highway and turned into the downtown area of Kaohsiung. By then,
it was already noon. Lian-fei thought it had been a very smooth
journey.
How could there be any disaster now? It looked as if her dream
of the Master's warning was not at all accurate. It was just herself
worrying too much about the dream, which she had thought could be
true. She smiled to herself. While she was pondering the matter,
they were cruising on the San To Road. The car in front of them
sped up, in an attempt to clear a yellow light, but had to brake
hard because the light changed so quickly to red. The Lincoln, which
was following closely behind, had to brake hard too. The wheels
screeched. Right behind the Lincoln was a big cargo truck which
also tried to brake, but failed to come to a complete halt in time.
The truck smashed into the back of the Lincoln and shoved it forward,
hitting the car in the front. Out of control, the Lincoln rolled
over on its right side.
Lian-fei crawled out of the Lincoln and looked up to see the Holy
Red Crown Vajra Master's image appearing in the sky standing on
a large lotus with golden white petals. He was smiling, wearing
a Five Buddhas Crown, a yellow robe and a red cassock. The Master
was holding a vajra sceptre in his right hand and a vajra bell in
his left hand. His body was emitting wave-like rays of golden white
light. He looked magnificently like a Buddha. Lian-fei immediately
knelt down and very humbly bowed to the Master. Then, she went to
check the chauffeur and the supervisors. The chauffeur had received
cuts and was bleeding from a head injury. The business supervisor
had cuts on his arms and the payroll supervisor was unhurt.
An ambulance came and took the injured to the hospital. The payroll
supervisor then asked Lian-fei,
"Who did you bow to by the road side just now?"
"My Master," Lian-fei replied without hesitation.
"Master, what master?"
"The Holy Red Crown Vajra Master. He is a transformation of
Padmakumara. He appeared in the sky as I was crawling out of the
car. He smiled to me. Really, it was the Master on top of the clouds
in the sky."
"So, your refuge name is Lian ...?"
"Lian-fei. It's the refuge name that Master gave me."
"I am Lian-t'i. I am also a student of the Master. So, the
daughter of the chairman of the board is also a student of the Master.
I did not know that." The payroll supervisor was clearly surprised.
So, they found out they were fellow practitioners. Lian-fei told
Lian-t'i about the dreams she had had, how she was warned by the
Master, and how she saw him in the sky right after the accident.
Lian-t'i looked up into the sky, but saw nothing. He asked the people
around who reacted in a surprised and disbelieving manner, and said
they did not see anything.
"Although I did not see the Master, he also protected me.
That's why I wasn't hurt either,"
Lian-t'i said. "Yes, it was he who saved us," Lian-fei
sighed.
I actually considered revealing the real name of Lian-fei. But
most of the members of her family are Christians. She is the only
one who has taken refuge in the True Buddha School, so she decided
not to have her name used in order to avoid stress in the family.
Her family does not quite understand the Master yet, and the minister
of their church often attacks the Master during his sermons.
The other person involved in the accident, Lian-t'i, works at the
company, so I cannot reveal his real name either. Lian-t'i always
advises others to sincerely recite the Guru Heart Mantra of the
Namo Great Compassionate Lian Shen Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, as it
can indeed relieve sufferings and ease difficulties. So, the image
of the Master in the sky was, indeed, real.
That was the manifestation of one of the billion transformations
of Padmakumara, emitting thousands and millions of rays in wonderful
light waves.
