Chapter 39 - Spiritual Divination And Healing
Mr. Chou Yi Lung, a middle manager in his fifties, is a learned
man of kindness and sincerity who has earned much respect from his
staff at the corporation by which he is employed. On many occasions,
he has asked me to do spiritual readings for him. These have all
turned out to be very accurate, whether they related to things in
the past or in the future.
One of these readings provided an accurate prediction on the life-span
of his father.
One day, Chou Yi Lung came to see me.
"Sheng-yen, can you do a reading to find out what is wrong
with my back? Recently my back has been aching, and I have already
been to see several doctors and tried all kinds of medication. The
medicines help a little, but as soon as their effects wear off,
the annoying pain comes back. Is there anything you can do to stop
this pain?"
When I was trying to help him obtain a reading, suddenly the word
"yin" [which could mean a soul] flashed across my mind.
So I closed my eyes, chanted a mantra, and tuned myself into the
spiritual world to get some information. This is the conclusion
I reached. Chou Yi Lung's mother had given birth to a girl before
him. The little girl had unfortunately died at the age of two. Because
she had died before her time, her soul had been homeless and wandering
for some time. Finally she found Chou Yi Lung, and the backache
was just a hint to Chou to seek help for her. Her chief purpose
was to ask Chou to have the Buddhist scriptures chanted for her
so her soul could be delivered out of her sufferings. Although she
was a disembodied spirit, she understood that, when he could not
take his backache any more, he would come to seek help from me.
Therefore I asked Chou Yi Lung, "Did your mother give birth
to a girl before you, and did the child pass away at the age of
two?"
Chou replied, "I doubt it, as I have never heard of it! Although
I have many siblings, all of them are still alive. I am not aware
of any deceased ones."
"Can you ask your mother about this? Where is she now?"
"She lives in Taipei. I will give her a long distance call.
If she confirms what you have said, I will come back to see you."
The elder Mrs. Chou is in her eighties and lives in their ancestral
house in Taipei. A few days later, Mr. Chou came to see me again.
He said,
"Your reading proved to be really accurate. When I called
my mother, she confirmed that I had indeed had an older sister who
died of an illness at the age of two. None of my siblings were aware
of this fact. Now what should I do?"
I told him, "We have already held a deliverance ceremony at
the Tz'u Hui Lei Tsang Temple here, but I know of one that is coming
up soon at the Taichung Tz'u Yin Temple. There will be the chanting
of scriptures and a repentance liturgy. Go and register the name
of this two year old girl and her date and place of death. That
should take care of it. I assure you that when this is done, your
backache will resolve itself."
Miraculously Mr. Chou Yi Lung' s back recovered completely. The
registration at the deliverance ceremony did not take any unusual
procedure, or ritual, or even cost him that much money. Just to
mention in passing, Mr. Chou' s wife owns a dressmaking boutique,
the Ch'iao Tzu, which is doing extremely well. The name of the store,
Ch'iao Tzu, and the date of the grand opening were selected by me.
I picked a date which, according to the almanac, was an inauspicious
one that discouraged all kinds of undertakings. Yet most people
did not know that the sixth hour in the morning of that particularly
inauspicious day was one of the rarest and best hours in the whole
year! The Ch'iao Tzu Boutique is located on Chien Hsing Road, near
the Taichung Pao Chueh Temple. Readers are welcome to go there to
have a dress tailor-made and to have the truth of this case verified.
Another incident took place one night at around 7:00 p.m.. I wass
standing outside with my door open when a speeding taxicab pulled
up. Two women emerged from the cab carrying an unconscious young
woman, and they appeared as if they were about to barge into the
house. I was quite shocked by this and asked, "What's happening?"
"Please, is Mr. Sheng-yen Lu home?"
"I am Sheng-yen Lu," I said in an odd tone. I did not
know those two women, and the young woman did not look very good
at all. She was as white as a sheet and hardly breathing! I decided
to not worry about it and let them carry her in, as the saving of
her life seemed to be the most important thing at that moment. The
idea that she could have died in my house and all the subsequent
terrible ramifications did not occur to me until later on.
As soon as they came inside the house, one of the women turned
to me, knelt down, and started crying,
"You are our savior, please help my daughter." I kept
my calm and asked her,
"Who told you that I can cure her?"
"Our neighbors told us. They said you specialize in incurable
illnesses."
"Has she seen any doctors yet?"
"Yes, we have taken her to see doctors throughout the whole
province. None could cure her of her headache. She has been given
all kinds of pills and injections, but she is not getting any better.
Today I carried her to the hospital, but they refused to treat her.
Those damned doctors just don't know the cause of her illness, and
since they cannot cure her, they don't want to see her any more.
Now I have come to beg you to give it a try. Please help us!"
"I am not a medical doctor. I can only do a spiritual reading
for you to see if there is any hope for cure," I explained.
"Please, I beg you." That woman wept bitterly. Her daughter
was just lying there on the chair motionlessly.
I sat quietly with my palms joined. Tapping my consciousness into
the highest spiritual realm, I asked for instructions. The simple
words "It is curable" appeared.
"With what kind of method?" I asked.
"The Dream Spiritual Healing Method taught by Mr. Three-Peaks-Nine-States
will cure her in one week." With my hands joined I thanked
the spiritual guidance.
I asked the woman to write down the date and time of birth of the
young woman (she was twenty years old), her name (Yeh Mei Pen),
address (Kung Yuan Road in Taichung) and also to leave behind some
clippings of her hair and fingernails. I told the mother that every
night before bedtime, she should light an incense stick and place
it at the head of her daughter' s bed. I assured them that she would
be cured in seven days. Not quite convinced, the two women thanked
me, carried out the young woman, and left again in a taxicab.
This is how the Dream Spiritual Healing Method was done: With a
yellow piece of paper, I made a cutout of the young woman. On the
paper I wrote her name, address, and date and time of birth. On
the remaining empty space I wrote "To Heal by Order."
Then I filled a section of thick bamboo with rice, inserted the
paper cutout in the rice, and placed her hair and fingernail clippings
inside the rice tube. The paper cutout represented the young woman,
while the hair and fingernails represented her spirit. After placing
these tools on the altar, I drew in a breath and exhaled by blowing
on the paper cutout. I then chanted, "One breath transforms
into three breaths while three breaths help one to resolve all disasters.
Eighty four thousand kinds of pains and ills are deposited in the
tens of millions of grains of rice. This is by decree of the Jade
Pond Golden Mother."
Every night at 12:00 a.m., I lit an incense stick and placed it
in the rice before the paper cutout. I also chanted, "Through
the connection of the incense and the transmission of this incense
method by the mind, one sleeps peacefully with sweet dreams. With
the manifestation of the divine power, all illnesses are uprooted.
The divine power of the Buddhadharma runs smoothly back and forth
from the vaults of heaven to the nether world. Both heaven and men
agree that with the eradication of illness, one is healed. This
is by decree of Mr. Three-Peaks-Nine-States' Dream Spiritual Healing
Method."
The method was just this simple, and after practicing it for seven
days, I put the tools away. On the ninth day, the other woman came
to tell me, "The young woman suddenly got better seven days
later. Her headache was gone. She became completely normal and regained
her youthful beauty."
"Thank goodness! This is indeed good news," I said.
"I have tried to persuade them to come to you and thank you,
as you have cured her! But they said they doubted it was due to
your power because you are so young. They now attribute her recovery
to a spontaneous healing," the woman spoke apologetically.
"That is fine. As long as her illness is gone, this is the
happiest news for me. I don't ask people to repay me."
Although I had to climb out of bed every night at midnight to hold
the mudra and chant the mantra, nothing will stop me as long as
this kind of work can help cure people who are at the end of their
wits. This is why I have helped people silently, asking nothing
in return.
