Chapter 17: Odd Disaster
I was once visiting Ch'ai Liang's family, and Ch'ai Liang had
been my classmate.
Ch'ai Liang's son, Ch'ai Lian, came out from his study room. When
he passed by the living room, Ch'ai Liang called his son, and said
to him: "This is uncle Lu. Say hello to uncle Lu!"
Ch'ai Lian nodded to me, and hastily passed by.
In just one second, I saw Ch'ai Lian's face, and I was startled.
I thought to myself: 'His eyes are very devious, and his facial
color is a little yellow.'
I asked Ch'ai Liang: "How old is your child?"
"Eighteen years old."
"It's just the rebellious years."
Ch'ai Liang said: "Ch'ai Lian is not bad. He's the
type of kid that is well behaved, ever since being little. He
loves to study, and rarely goes out to play. He always hides
in his own study room."
"What books does he read?" I inquired.
"As parents, we're lucky enough if the child can stay at
home safe and stable, and not become bad, and not go out to invite
trouble."
I said to Ch'ai Liang: "I happen to have a set of books concerning
spiritual cultivation, and I will give them to Ch'ai Liang to read."
"Thank you very much!"
I said: "It's quite important what types of books the child
reads. As parents, you should also pay attention to the books
your child reads."
After a few days, Ch'ai Liang came to see me utterly distressed
and exasperated, holding a pile of books. He was trembling
with anger, throwing books everywhere on the floor.
I picked up the books, and discovered that those books were entitled:
"The Sex Devil", "The Charming Widow", "A
Little Nun Coming Down the Mountain", "The History of
Emperor Wu Tse-t'ien's Sexual Affair", "A Play Out
of Water"
Ch'ai Liang said: "This boy hides in his study room all day
long, and I thought that he was being very obedient. And guess
what he's been reading? What he reads are all these books!
A whole box was filled with these books. It's not only
books, but pictures attached as well. What those pictures
display are all naked men and women, in various sexual postures."
Last time, Ch'ai Liang had followed my advice, and had quietly
gone into his son's room to see what he was reading.
Ch'ai Lian was burying himself in a book, with such concentration,
not expecting that his father would come into his study room. He
was stretching one of his hands inside his pants and was busily
touching his private parts.
Ch'ai Liang took a look at the book's title: "A Lustful Woman
Steals Men."
In the book, there were a few color pictures: some girls wearing
student skirts, and some wearing nun's robes. All of those
pictures displayed postures of men and women embracing each other.
The women's mouths were open wide, and their eyes were filled
with seductive expressions.
Ch'ai Liang was angry, and Ch'ai Lian lowered his head.
Ch'ai Liang asked reprovingly: "Why are you reading this
kind of book?"
"This, also, is knowledge."
"This is pornographic fiction."
"My classmates are even more pornographic than these books."
"What?"
"They've all had experiences."
"You are only in high school!"
"Statistics show that fifty percent of high school students
have had this kind of experience. I'm the one who has already
fallen behind!"
Ch'ai Liang was so shocked that his eyeglasses almost fell on
the floor. Ch'ai Liang knew of course that this was an open
age in contemporary society, and ethics and morality are complete
dissolving. Carefree love affairs are prevailing in this time,
and young students have already sunk into the bottomless sea of
sexual lust. Society is filled with sex business, sex shops
are everywhere, and one can watch A-rated movies anytime as one
wishes. This is a type of fashion. Seeing that his own
son could also not escape from becoming corrupted, Ch'ai Liang was
startled!
Ch'ai Liang asked me: "What should I do?"
"Teach him the proper education of sex."
"What about those book?"
"All the pornographic books should be burned in flames."
"How should I teach him?"
"Redirect his attention and encourage him to join proper
activities after classes."
"What about his thoughts?"
"Since ancient times, why have gifted scholars and people
of ideals and integrity been so physically weak? How come
they don't have longevity? In most cases, it is because they
have too much sexual desire. Before engaging in sex affairs,
they know the consequence, and after engaging in sex affairs, they
also know to have regret. However, when their mind of sexual
desire is in flames, all of their conscience disappears. They
always think that one or two sex affairs wouldn't harm as long as
they wouldn't do it again next time. Next time, they have
the same thought again, and they will have the same thought later,
every time. They indulge in sexual lust even more and more,
and end up unable to control themselves. They can't do anything
about it, and their essence becomes exhausted! When their
essence becomes exhausted, their body becomes weak! When their
body is weak, they become ill! When they are ill, they die!"
"My son is only eighteen years old!"
"It was those books that corrupted him. At such a young
age, masturbation would ruin his health. A boy of his age
should eliminate sexual desire, and sever masturbation, in order
to strengthen his essence and marrow. He should focus on purifying
his spirit."
"Some books claim that one or two times occasionally cannot
hurt!"
"Young people's wills are not determined, and they cannot
uphold the natural principle."
"What about after they are married."
"When twenty years old, one's sex life should not exceed
once every seven days. When thirty years old, one's sex life
should not exceed once every fourteen days. When forty years
old, one's sex life should not exceed once every twenty-eight days.
When fifty years old, one's sex life should not exceed once
every forty-five days. When sixty years old, one should not
have sex anymore, for one's T'ien-k'ui ends."
(For a man, he begins puberty at the age of sixteen, and reaches
menopause at the age of sixty-four. For a woman, she reaches
puberty at the age of fourteen, and reaches menopause at the age
of forty-nine. What is T'ien-k'ui? It is spiritual water
from heaven, referring to one's essence, marrow, blood, and channels.)
After Ch'ai Liang left, he didn't come back again.
I heard news later that Ch'ai Lian, the son of Ch'ai Liang, was
stabbed to death by his suspicious neigbor!
I was greatly shocked upon hearing the news.
According to the news, his neighbor was a young woman. Her
husband was a businessman who often went out on business trips.
The young woman liked to read, and often borrowed books from Ch'ai
Lian. The two of them became very friendly, and it resulted
in "A Lustful woman steals a man."
Because of their frequent contact with each other, the young woman's
husband detected their affair. Acting on an angry impulse,
he killed Ch'ai Lian.
The life of this young man was so simply finished!
My reflection upon hearing this news is as follows:
For a young man, who is energetic and vigorous, and whose disposition
is not yet determined, one should not allow him to come into contact
with pornographic books and pictures, for as soon as he sees these
things, he will most likely be unable to extricate himself from
becoming addicted.
For modern young men, it's not just the seduction of pornographic
books and pictures, but also A-rated movies, videotapes, and sex
shops. As for erotic places, the temptation is even more irresistible.
Therefore, educating children and teenagers is extremely important.
If they are polluted, one should instruct them to quickly
repent and to purify themselves. Health, moral character, and spiritual
cultivation are all very important.
Principally speaking, to simply join an activity in school is
very beneficial. Climbing, swimming, traveling, camping, looking
at landscape sceneries, all of these are associated with the nature
of heaven and earth. On the other hand, one can also join
Buddhist winter and summer camps, because having religious faith,
which refrains from killing, stealing, adultery, false speech, and
drinking alcohol, is also very healthy
One needs to realize that the karmic offence of committing adultery,
as secretive as it is, does not escape divine eyes that are as bright
as lightning. Such an offence will cause one's reduction of
prosperity, and a short lifespan. At the moment when death
approaches, one's wealth and high position acquired throughout one's
entire life would completely disappear, all because of the momentary
pleasure of sexual pleasure.
If one owed karmic debt, then one would not have the hope to finish
repaying it. If one commits an offence, then one would not have
the hope to completely wash it off. If one's deeds were not
pure due to impure thoughts, then deities and divine officials of
heaven and earth would not bestow blessings on such a person. One
is responsible for such a destiny!
There are so many people who are highly gifted and learned, but
their destinies are poor and unfortunate. Why? One has
to question oneself: Did I commit some kind of offence? Did
I commit some kind of adultery offence?
This offence of adultery is very dangerous! It is dangerous
indeed!
One has to have regret and improve oneself!
Otherwise, it will cause an odd disaster!
