Chapter 1: A Great Book of Virtue
Living this Moment of Purity was my 145th book. The causes and
conditions of writing this book were quite special.
I should mention that it was both a Buddha and a Deity who wanted
me to write this book. This Buddha is the "Virtuous Light Buddha,"
who is the deity, the "Wen-ch'ang God".
At that time, the Virtuous Light Buddha told me: "Most people
in the contemporary world are accumulating more and more greed and
desire. Very few people have a pure mind and little desire. Although
civilization is evolving, the light of virtue has almost diminished.
I observe such a situation with sadness, and cannot tolerate the
degeneration of people into the three lower realms of hell beings,
animals, and hungry ghosts. Today, I'm inviting you to use your
talent and write a book to salvage people of the world. It would
be truly beneficial to inspire people to quickly awaken in order
to be cautious and to restrain themselves from craving sex.
When the book Living this Moment of Purity was finished, I knew
that the Virtuous Light Buddha (the god, Wen-ch'ang) was very pleased.
This book has won the praise of divine beings in the heavenly realms,
and the joy of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas
told me that this book is great and virtuous, and it is a book that
can benefit many people. The key meaning of this book is: "One's
eyes do not see form, one's ears do not hear sound, one's nose does
not smell fragrance, one's mouth does not grasp taste, one's body
does not have a sense of refinement and smooth contact, and one's
mind remains pure. This indicates that one's heart will not be moved
by external objects."
The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas told me: "When one writes a virtuous
book, one should create a book that does not give an impression
of being virtuous, yet in truth, it will be a virtuous book.
Externally it looks like a conventional, miscellanious book, but
internally, it's content is spiritually profound.
Such a way of teaching morality is not so obvious.
It will be a primary book of teaching morality.
When I heard of this, I was extremely happy. Furthermore, the spiritual
realm delivered a story to me in response to this book. This is
an inexplicable occurrence related to the book, Living this Moment
of Purity. I describe it as follows:
A person named Li Shih bought the book, Living this Moment of Purity.
Upon reading it, he thought the book was quite marvelous. He learned
a lot from it.
Li Shih had a sister who had anorexia. This disease was very strange,
as it was caused by her own wish to lose weight.
Initially, Li Shih's sister did not eat regularly, and even when
she ate, she would eat only a small slice of bread, or a piece of
vegetable, or a piece of fish or meat. Her appetite was like that
of a small cat. She lost weight by eating small amounts of food
like a kitten, and she was very pleased that she became slim.
However, a problem followed. Although she succeeded in losing weight,
as a result she began to eat less and less, and became anorexic.
Later, Li Shih's sister noticed that by only eating one slice of
bread, she felt as if she had eaten an entire loaf of bread. Thus,
she would only have one bite and then stop eating. She couldn't
even eat vegetables, fish, or meat, not even a little bit. As soon
as she ate vegetables, fish, or meat, she wanted to vomit. At every
meal, she would eat only one bite of bread with some water.
She always felt full and she didn't have any appetite.
A horrible thing happened. Originally, Li Shih's sister was of
the heavier type, but now she become so skinny that her hair became
dry, her eyes became sunken, and her hands and feet became like
thin branches. She required help to walk, as if she could be blown
away by the wind at any time.
She couldn't eat because of her problem of vomiting. Her family
was worried and tried to persuade her to eat, but she had no appetite.
Her family brought her to doctors, and even consulted therapists,
yet nothing had an effect.
A psychic medium claimed that her energy field had been disrupted
upon encountering the strong yin energy field of a corpse!
Another psychic declared that she had entered the realm of hungry
ghosts!
Through a psychic medium, an attached spirit announced that she
had a spell cast upon her by black magic!
There were various diagnoses, and no one could heal her illness.
Li Shih was extremely worried about his sister.
One night, Li Shih dreamt of a deity telling him: "Living
this Moment of Purity is a great and virtuous book. If you can distribute
it freely to others, one copy of this book will bring you one stock
of merit, and a hundred copies of this book will bring hundreds
of stocks of merit. It will definitely increase your merit if you
buy this book and give it to others, from which your sister's illness
can be cured."
This dream was very clear.
Li Shih thought that this was simple to do. He bought a hundred
copies of the book, Living this Moment of Purity, and gave them
freely to his good friends and colleagues.
Meanwhile, Li Shih prayed to the deities in space, and wished that
the prediction of the deity who appeared in his dream was not false
but truly efficacious.
After that, a miracle happened indeed.
Li Shih's sister began to change and she began to enjoy drinking
goat milk. Gradually, she was able to eat some solid food, such
as a slice of bread. Eventually, she ate normally.
It took only one month before she was completely recovered.
The cure of this disease, anorexia, was mysterious, and doctors
were puzzled by it.
Is this incident related to the power of the book, Living this
Moment of Purity? This is all unseen, and there is no concrete evidence
for one to prove it. If one believes it, then it exists; if one
does not believe it, it does not exist. It is up to one to believe
it or not to believe it.
Through my psychic clairvoyance, this story is proven to be authentic.
