Chapter 5 - Offering Help and Deliverance At All Places

My only outing is going to the market to buy food. Otherwise, I spend most of my time cultivating myself diligently in recluse.

Near the market you will find a shop selling coffee and fruit juices. The owner is a native Polynesian (Ma'ohi). The weather was hot when I walked into his shop and ordered a cup of decafe ice coffee with no sugar. I like coffee that is cold and bitter, as it tastes special.

The owner's right eye was bandaged with a single patch of gauze-covered cotton. He looks like he is in his forties with a well built body and dark brown skin tone, resembling the natives of Hawaii or Guam. His upper body was naked, baring his rather fleshy chest with a bulging belly.

I pointed to his right eye and asked, "What happened?"

He replied, "Eye problem. Inflammation of the cornea. Seen the doctor many times, took and applied medicine and it's been this way for a month."

"Should be recovering soon?"

"Recovering soon?" He laughed bitterly, "I see no signs of recovery so far. The eye is blood red and the pain is killing me. It's like I've run into a ghost!"

When I heard him mentioned the word ghost, a sensation swept my heart. I felt an urge to help him but I did not want to stir things up. I finished my cup of coffee, stood up and paid the bill. I had wanted to turn and leave but my body remained stationary.

I said, "You believe I can cure your eye?"

"You're a doctor?"

"No! I'm no doctor."

"Are you a Shaman then?"(The Polynesian suspected I might be a witch doctor.)

"I'm not." I replied.

"Then who are you?"

"It doesn't matter. You just give me a cup of water. Trust me. I can cure your eye problem." I said in confidence.

He quickly poured me a glass of water and I immediately formed a mudra, and wrote the Sanskrit words, 'Om Bu Lin' over the water. I saw my Personal Deity emanating light into the water from the heavens above, transforming it into an elixir. Following this I chanted 'Om Bu Lin' three times.

I wanted him to drink the water and he followed my instruction and finished the cup of water. He was smiling in amusement.

About a week later, I happened to walk past his shop and saw a crowd infront of his shop. The owner saw me and ran towards me, shouting, "That night, the redness faded and the pain was gone. My eye is healed. You are amazing! You are a god!"

The crowd of people surrounded me.

I asked, "Who are these people?"

The coffee shop owner said, "They heard about you and wanted your help."

I said, "No!"

I told the people to consult the doctor first and if the circumstances calls for my help, I would consider it. I left the place as quickly as I could.

This sets me thinking. Here I am in this place, not knowing anybody and nobody knows me. Yet, if I were to help them, I will be known. There is no place on earth where I cannot help sentient beings out of their sufferings.

The question is, I am now living a life of recluse and I feel I should continue my life as a solitary old man in peace. I do not want to appear on the stage of the world again.
