Chapter 11 - Dreams and Fantasy
My days of solitude seems to be a mix of both reality and fantasy.
Being the only person in the house somehow reflects a life that
gravitates more towards day-dreaming.
I wonder if the Mountain God in Tahiti knows how to plough. Does
he know how to wash and cook rice? Will he cook a few dishes of
delicious food, pack them into a meal box and descend from heaven
to offer me the food?
I remember I have come across the mention of the period during
which Maitreya shall incarnate in the Buddhist Sutra. In that time,
man shall enjoy longevity. Whatever he wants to wear the tree shall
provide and if he wants to eat the tree shall produce bread. And
a tree that produces bread is nothing strange when you find one
that produces a burger! At that time, the land is as flat as a mirror.
I also long for a place where immortals live. Oh no, it's not Shambala
but the lnad known as the Extreme North. The immortals on this land
partake in food without labouring and cloth themselves without the
need to sew. In that land, the immortals satisfy their need for
food through drinking the elixir that flows out of the spiritual
mountain. They do not have to plough and sew.
I am aware that the Immortal Cher Song Zi takes only pine nut kernel
for food. The Immortal Wo Chian also consume pine nut. When the
Yellow Emperor becomes an immortal, he only eats The Mountain Ghost
mentioned in book The Songs of the South eats only ABC Grass to
preserve his youth.
The most difficult thing in my life as the Solitary Old Man is
dealing with the time spent on food. This is not about food preparation
or my cooking skill. It is about ins and outs of preparing for any
one meal intended for the consumption of ten persons or one person.
It makes all the difference in.
I bought myself a large food container in the market. I am thinking
of stuffing the whole container with stewed-meat so that I can heat
up some of it for my meals and that should solve all my problem.
During the time of Shaykamuni Buddha, the Buddha himself led a
group of Arhats, walked on bare feet towards the marketplace. They
were dressed shabbily and held an empty bowl in their hands. When
people saw the presence of holy men, they automatically offered
them food.
This is mentioned: "One day, at mealtime, the World Honoured
One put on His robe, took His bowl, and entered the great town of
Sravasti to beg for His food. After He had begged from door to door,
He returned to His place. When He had taken His meal, He put away
His robe and bowl, washed His feet, arranged His seat and sat down."
The way they begged for food during the time of Shakyamuni Buddha
moved me deeply.
I thought of Milarepa who stayed in his cave and took only a certain
bean known as green bean for food. As a result, his body turned
green and he became the Green Vajra. He reached great attainment
through the practice of Kundalini and was without doubt a great
yogi.
I imagine if the Golden Mother of the Jade Pond knows that I am
keep occupied with the preparation of my three meals, would she
then send her three attendants, Da Lian, Shou Lian and Ching Lian,
who shall descend upon the heaven with food and deliver them to
me? If this dream comes true, I'll be very blessed!
