Chapter N: The Hot and Burning Hell

There was a woman named Chen Xiang who came to me asking for help.  She wished to know where her mother's spirit went after she died.  

I entered Samadhi to find out. I regretfully told her: "Her spirit entered into The Hot and Burning Hell!"

"It's impossible that my mother went to hell!  I don't believe you." She said.

 "When your mother lived, she was a very angry person.  This is the reason why your mother is in the Hot and Burning Hell."

Chen Xiang returned home.  She questioned her father about her mothers' character as her mother passed away when she was very young.

Her father answered: "Your mother had a good nature, but she was very impatient and easily aggravated.  When alive, she put all of her attention and energy into her family, as she was very meticulous and demanding. She was belligerent and fought with neighbors and friends many times, and even took some of them to the court."

"Were her actions caused by hatred and anger?"

"If things weren't carried out her way she easily became angry!"  Her father said.

Chen Xiang searched me out again.

"Guru Lian Shen, can you help my mother?"

I entered Samadhi again. Then, I said, "It's will be a difficult task to help her!"

"Why?"

"The flame of this hell is immense, it is very difficult to enter!"

"Just put out the fire!"

"This is not ordinary fire."

At hearing this, she said desperately: "I have to help her Guru Lian Shen.  Would you please find a way and do whatever to help her?  

I said: "I will ask for the Water God to help!"  

"Which Water God?"

"Da Yu."

I recited a mantra and edict.  

"The Da Yu Water God!
Open the dam and usher the water,
Permit the water to surge forward.  
Follow my edict word by word!
Manifest and salvage the hell beings!"

Finally, Da Yu showed himself.

Da Yu received my edict to go to the Hot and Burning Hell but returned quickly.  He came back alone and his body was charcoal-burnt all over.  

I asked Da Yu: "What happened?"

Da Yu said: "When I entered the Hot and Burning Hell there were enormous raging flames.  My face and all of my clothes were burnt."  

"Couldn't you have recited the fire avoidance mantra?"

"Of course, I could not.  I can only handle water.  I understand the characteristics of water and know the mantra to avoid water.  I do not handle fire.  Living Buddha Lian Shen, you must have been mistaken."
