I once read a newspaper article about a ten-year-old boy who had
fallen from the eleventh floor of a building without sustaining
any injury. The boy only experienced mild shock. His parents were
traumatized when they discovered what had happened, but they were
relieved to find him unharmed.
Those who had read the article wondered, "How is this possible?"
Someone asked me, "What is your explanation?"
I could only smile.
I remember reading The Primordial Legends (Shang Gu Shen Hua Yan
Yi ) when I was young, and this is how part of it goes:
There was once a heavenly god who mated with a queen. She gave
birth to a baby boy. The king was not happy with this, so he ordered
his soldiers to remove the baby's clothes and take him to a valley,
leaving him to die.
At that time, the valley was covered with snow. A newborn baby
would surely freeze to death or die of starvation if left there
alone.
The soldiers threw the baby to the ground, and at that very instant,
a flock of crows swooped down from the sky to catch and carry the
baby away. They formed a bed in the snow so the baby could sleep,
and some of the crows created a blanket with their feathers to cover
the baby.
Amazed by what they saw, the soldiers quickly returned to inform
the king.
Three days later, the soldiers were sent back to the valley to
check on the baby.
The crows were still there guarding and caring for the baby.
The baby had survived and more surprisingly, a group of mother
wolves were feeding the baby with their milk. After they had finished
feeding the baby, they licked the baby's face with their tongues
to clean it. The baby appeared healthy and slept soundly, full of
contentment.
The soldiers returned and reported to the king what they had seen.
The king sensed that the baby was no ordinary human. Without further
hesitation, he ordered his soldiers to bring back the baby.
The baby later became one of the characters in the famous story,
The Three Emperors and Five Kings (San Huang Wu Di.)
When I read this, I thought the person who wrote it was really
a good storyteller. However, I was skeptical. It didn't seem possible
to me.
When I started learning Buddhism, I visited Reverend Liao Ming,
and he said to me, "You once fell from a high place and survived."
"No I didn't!" I answered. Reverend Liao Ming said, "Think
carefully, it happened at a time when you were very, very little!"
Later, I discovered to my amazement that it was true. I was really
too little to remember it. If my parents had not mentioned it, it
would be unknown to me.
I had fallen from a great height, and the only sound made was some
creaking. I was quiet and my family thought I was dead. Luckily,
I opened my mouth and let out a loud cry. As it turned out, I was
alive.
Reverend Liao Ming explained to me, "All this had been pre-destined.
You have an extraordinary origin, and you will be a man of great
accomplishments in the future. Although you were just a naive boy
at that time, the Dharma Protector was behind you, and he was responsible
for your safety. When you fell, the Dharma Protector stretched out
his hands to catch you and make sure you wouldn't be harmed."
I asked Reverend Liao Ming suspiciously, "Is this really true?"
Reverend Liao Ming solemnly declared to me, "The Dharma Protector
behind you is true."
I, Living Buddha Lian Sheng, Sheng-yen Lu, have given my 124th
book the title "Secrets Of Dharma Protectors " and the
subtitle, "Hidden Dharma Protectors . " I hope that this
book can give everyone an accurate concept of Dharma Protectors.
Since I am a Tantric Master, I understand Hidden Dharma Protectors
.
This book will be a great surprise.
